TRANSPORT GROUP is the proud recipient of a TRANSPORT GROUP is also the proud recipient of TRANSPORT GROUP was honored at the 2007 Obie Awards when Donna Lynne Champlin received an Obie Award for her critically acclaimed performance as Cora Flood in Transport Group's acclaimed 50th Anniversary production of William Inge's classic Amercian drama, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs. "What's a wife to do, faced with an emotionally frail teen-aged daughter, an over-dependant son, nouveau riche in-laws she can't keep up with, and a neglectful husband obsessed with a job that technology is about to render obsolete. The woman's got only one choice -- to play her role to the hilt, registering every nuance with passion, precision and grace. For making that choice come to memorable life, the judges have voted an Obie for her performance in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs to Donna Lynne Champlin." Later in the evening, acclaimed actress Cynthia Nixon presented an Obie Award Grant to Artistic Director Jack Cummings III for TRANSPORT GROUP's continued excellence in the New York theatre scene and said the following: "Rejuvenating the past and challenging the future, this company is nothing if not ambitious, equally unfazed by the challenges of giving a forgotten play a startling new life or creating a new musical with a cast as large as the audience. In the coming years, they plan to revisit the entire 20th century, commissioning a new work and reviving an old one to stand for every decade. For the excitement of what they've done and what's to come, the judges have voted an Obie Award Grant of $2,500 to TRANSPORT GROUP." In May 2008, Laura Harrington received the prestigious Edward Kleban Award for most promising librettist for her libretto for Crossing Brooklyn which TRANSPORT GROUP had the honor of producing the world premiere in the fall of 2007.
